One of the articles in this edition, "Bed Rest The Basic Prescription," acknowledges the profound effect of antibiotic drugs in the treatment of tuberculosis, but it does not diminish the basic requirement of physical and mental rest in the cure rate.
As a result of effective drug therapy, outpatient treatment, and improved social and economic conditions many of the nation’s sanatoriums were closed and/or demolished when tuberculosis no longer presented a major public health threat.
