Description
Pictured in the PWA hospital ward is Robert 'Bobby' Carroll, a 9-year old patient with an unidentified staff member dressed as Santa Claus in December 1958. Admitted to the sanatorium in a life-threatening condition, Robert was ultimately diagnosed with histoplasmosis, a disease caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum that primarily affects the lungs and if left untreated can be fatal.
